Big "D" Toastmasters is an active group that is committed to learning and developing public speaking and leadership skills, having fun and oh by the way, we do like to laugh. Weekly meetings are structured and purposeful, but we also manage to have a great time. Big “D” has been in existence since 1949, and was the first Dallas Toastmasters club, and we like to think we are the most entertaining club around! We think you’ll agree there is something for everyone at each weekly meeting.
Who joins a Toastmasters club?
Improving your speaking and leadership skills can have a lasting impact and your professional and personal life. In fact each club has a duty to provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth. These skills are vital in the world today, and Toastmasters gives you a great place to learn them and more importantly, practice them.
Big "D" members are composed of a broad range of people from all walks of life, ranging from UTD and SMU undergraduate and graduate students, business professionals including doctors, lawyers, engineers and accountants, and other members of the community all committed to personal development as we work to improve our speaking and leadership skills.
The basic premise at Big “D” is simple – we learn by doing and the more you participate the better you get (and the more you enjoy).
Want to Visit?
Don't be shy! Visitors are always welcome and we generally have 2-3 visitors at every meeting. We all walked in the door with a certain amount of trepidation but rest assured you’ll be welcomed, invited to make yourself comfortable and just sit back and observe as a guest for as long as you like. Most of our members visit 2-3 times before deciding to join. Some have stayed for over 30 years.
Most of us joined to develop our speaking skills, but we’ve stayed because it is fun and entertaining, with a diverse cross section of the community coming together weekly. At Big “D” you learn how to communicate effectively, write and deliver a speech, conduct a meeting, and of course think on your feet. If you wish to be a better speaker at a very low cost and enjoy a good laugh while you learn, and are ready to start taking action to achieve that goal, Big “D” Toastmasters is a great place to be.
We meet on Thursday evenings from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at the DoubleTree Hotel at Campbell Centre. As a visitor there is no RSVP required, just show up and prepare to begin learn more about Toastmasters, and maybe be entertained at the same time. Get more meeting location information here.
