Body Language Expert Explains Why People Dislike You
Like most organizations, Toastmasters has a mission. At the club level that mission is:
We provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth.
While this video isn’t strictly about public speaking, it does many insights into how your appearance factors into how people perceive you.
That last part of our mission—greater self-confidence and personal growth—is where this video really connects.
Understanding how others perceive you based on things like posture, facial expressions, or vocal tone is crucial, not just for speakers, but for leaders. This video is a good reminder that even before we say a word, we’re already sending a message.
In Toastmasters, we get to practice not only what we say, but how we show up. Every meeting is a low-risk opportunity to refine our presence and learn what’s working—or not.
Worth a watch, and worth thinking about the next time you step to the lectern.
