Weekly Update 07/28/2018

Hello Big “D” Toastmasters!
Here is your Big “D” Weekly Update.

Scheduling

I’ll be creating the schedule for August 16th and 23rd on MONDAY. If you have still not updated your absences, well … do it, please?

Pathways

This past week I (Don Teague, VP of Education) attended another TLI training session. For those who don’t know, TLI is Toastmasters Leadership Institute that all incoming club officers should attend, and any member who wants to learn more about the topics offered is allowed to attend as well.
I went to learn more about Pathways. One thing that I came away with is that you have to look at Pathways and the delivery method (ie, the horrible, imho, web interface) as two separate items. When you really get to looking at the Pathways program, it has a lot of benefits that will help all members, old and new alike. If you joined Toastmasters after before Mid-February, 2018, then you have no idea what a “Competent Communicator” manual is. (And Steve Patterson would argue I still don’t, but I digress.)

Evaluations in Pathways

Something that might have been confusing to some, especially long time members. Evaluations are now something you have done for you, and then YOU are responsible for what is done with it. If you want to take a picture of the eval, and upload it to Toastmasters.org in your Base Camp, then you can do so. You could also save a copy to your local computer, save the paper, or just throw it away.

Fall Contest

We’ll be holding the Fall Club Contest on September 27th.
The Area 31 contest is currently scheduled for Saturday, October 06 at 3:00pm.
The Division Contest (Metro)  is currently scheduled for Thursday evening, November 1 at 6:00pm. [This is a LONG way out, but if the Big “D” Contest winner makes it to Division, then we may not have a meeting that night.]
We will need people to step up and run the contests on a local level. Visiting a TLI session to learn more wouldn’t be a bad idea. Just sayin’.

Name Badges

We are in the process of getting new name tags. Stay tuned.

Club Events

Our new VP of PR, Phuong Le, had wanted to put up a calendar of events on our DallasToastmasters.com web site. I’m pleased to announced that we have a calendar now available. Check it out at https://dallastoastmasters.com/events

Member List

There has been a few times where a member list would come in handy. I’ve found a way to integrate your login to DallasToastmasters.com into a user list. This list will only be available to logged in users. Accounts purged as memberships expire, or people leave the group. To add your phone number to this list simply edit your profile after you log into the Big “D” site.
You will be able to access the list here: https://dallastoastmasters.com/member/membership-list/
